I have known Doug Knudson for approximately three years. During this time, Doug has worked as a consultant,
employee and subcontractor for the Research Triangle Institute in the Electronics and Systems business unit
that I head. While working for RTI, Mr. Knudson was responsible for the
design and development of various information technology systems including relational databases and
graphical interfaces. Mr. Knudson's work for the institute has been truly outstanding. His ability to
understand customer needs coupled with his in-depth understanding of key technical issues served him
extremely well at RTI. In fact, Doug was so good at that after leaving RTI he started his own
company called 'Advanced Information Solutions (AIS).
In the last six months, AIS has been employed by RTI to provide consulting services on a Badge and Pass
system under development by RTI for NASA's Langley Research
Center. During this time, the lead person on this project was Linda Knudson. Ms. Knudson's specialty is
designing and implementing graphical user interfaces. Linda took charge of a partially completed project and
saw it through to successful completion. Doug Knudson provided technical support on this project in the
database area. As a team, AIS did an outstanding job of identifying and dealing with the wide
range of technical and customer issues on this project.
AIS was a tremendous asset to RTI on the NASA Badge and Pass system project. AIS does outstanding technical work and are a pleasure to work with. I highly recommend them and their company, AIS, and will be pleased to provide further information as required. I may be contacted at jbc@rti.org or at (919) 541-6951.

I have enjoyed a business relationship with Doug Knudson covering an eight-year period from 1991 up
until the present day. During that period of time the working relationship has encompassed a variety of forms.
My introduction to Doug came as a competitor, when my company acquired the business that he worked for in
order to gain the rights to the database and data entry software Doug developed. After the acquisition Doug was a
co-worker in that organization and in a subsequent organization where he was recruited at my request. My
relationship with Doug since mid 1997 has been as a contractor with his current organization Advanced Information
Solutions, Inc. (AIS).
The duration and variety of roles in which Doug has assisted me with projects I have been responsible for are a testimony to my confidence in the quality of his work and level of commitment to his customers.
Through direct and documentable work experience I find Advanced Information Solutions to be particularly
skilled and experienced in the following areas:
Database Design - Strong background in relational database theory with implementation experience to
substantiate that knowledge in a variety of DBMS systems. I can attest to large scale implementations in
both Sybase and Microsoft SQL Server.
User Interface Ergonomics - AIS pays particular attention to the details of data entry with an
uncanny skill for simplifying and streamlining that task to the maximum degree possible.
Efficient High-Volume Data Entry Software - The types of data entry system I have developed with
AIS are geographically distributed, Enterprise systems requiring in excess of 100,000 complex transactions
per day.
Process Flow Analysis and Control - AIS has excellent analytical skills and is willing to invest the
time required to understand complex processes in order to propose effective database and application
solutions to manage those processes.
I believe that the level of success AIS is able to achieve comes as a result of combining technical skills
with a corporate culture that emphasizes a high degree of professionalism.
AIS embraces a high sense of responsibility for all the jobs they undertake. That sense of responsibility is
exhibited through responsiveness at all stages of the project, from feasibility through support well after
implementation. AIS is willing to be fully accountable within the framework defined at the on-set of a
project and will adapt that framework as the project evolves.
AIS exhibits a high degree of 'pride of authorship.' As such, AIS is concerned that the 'look and feel' of
all their applications reflect well on AIS and the customer contracting them.
AIS possesses the rare sense of balance that is required to offer elegant but still practical solutions. And
more importantly, they are willing to work on that continuum at the level the customer desires.
The last strong testimonial I can offer for Doug Knudson comes as a reflection on his personal style. Doug
works extremely well in a team environment. He is able to divorce himself from ego and still exert his
influence in the design and completion of a project. He has the sense to exhibit the same degree of
respect for customer contacts from the highest to the lowest levels of an organization. He is very
effective in using that professional, easy style to attain the information, cooperation and confidence
necessary to successfully implement projects in any kind of environment.

The North Carolina Foundation for Advanced Health Programs, Inc.
(NCFAHP) has worked with Advanced Information Solutions (AIS) since
1996. Throughout this time we've contracted several projects for
software programming and development services and continue utilizing
their talent to update our software products. Each time their proposed
design and consequent execution have been exemplary.

North Carolina Foundation for Advanced Health Programs, Inc. has been very pleased with Advanced Information Solutions. Their work is commendable and reflects a consummate professionalism. Without qualification, we recommend their services to you. |
Advanced Information Solutions (AIS) has provided information systems consulting services to Research
Triangle Institute(RTI) for the past six months. During that period, AIS had the following responsibilities
on major RTI projects:
In every aspect of their work for RTI, AIS has provided superb technical
and project management services. In their major project for RTI, a Badge and Pass System for NASA, AIS
was asked to take over a partially completed development effort and to coordinate with an integration
contractor at NASA. Despite numerous technical and management difficulties encountered in this project,
AIS provided an excellent product and consistently maintained a professional approach to their work.
Indeed, the professionalism of AIS is truly impressive. Throughout the project, AIS communicated
effectively with both the client and RTI staff regarding the issues and the options for action. AIS made
realistic estimates of time to complete modules and delivered as promised. Their attention to
detail, responsiveness to requests, and commitment to completion of a quality product were critical to the
successful conclusion of the project.
I first met Doug Knudson of Advanced Information Solutions, Inc. (AIS) in April 1997, as the Vice President
of Development for RCS Research in Raleigh, NC. I contracted services with AIS for Database Design,
Development and Administration. This position was critical to the success of a new model of software design
for RCS. I was specifically looking for an individual with the technical skills, initiative, judgment and
leadership ability to implement new strategic initiatives in SQL database design. It was also critical that
the individual be able to implement solutions without close supervision from me.
